SECRETARY-GENERAL'S MESSAGE

Dear Prospective Delegates and Distinguished Guests,
It is my great honor to learn your interest in participating in the Model Commonwealth Summit 2025, taking place in the vibrant heart of Ghana, Accra from September 4th to 6th 2025. This summit is designed to engage young leaders from across the Commonwealth in collaborative dialogue and innovative problem-solving on the pressing issues that affect our youth and shape their future aspirations.
The Model Commonwealth Summit serves as a dynamic platform to amplify youth voices, increase the visibility of youth work, and foster deeper engagement within the Commonwealth community. Here, we emphasize the importance of solidarity and cooperation, reinforcing the values of the Commonwealth that unite us.
This summit is a unique space for Commonwealth diplomacy, youth mainstreaming, and networking. It brings together bright minds from diverse backgrounds to transform innovative ideas into actionable solutions. With my background as the Women’s Commissioner for the Law Students’ Association and Chief of Staff, I understand the power of youth leadership in effecting change.
I hold a Bachelor of Law (LLB) from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration, along with a Diploma in Decision Persuasion and Negotiation from the University of Southern Denmark. I am currently pursuing a Professional Law Course at the Ghana School of Law. My experiences include participating in international forums such as the Model United Nations, where I represented the International Monetary Fund, and the Model Commonwealth Summit 2024, as well as serving as a chaperone for the Youth Assembly Conference 2025. These experiences have fueled my commitment to empowering youth and fostering collaborative governance.
At this summit, we aim to:
- Amplify Commonwealth Diplomacy: Enhance understanding and cooperation among member states.
- Focus on Youth Mainstreaming: Integrate youth perspectives in dialogue into decision-making processes.
- Provide Networking Opportunities: Create avenues for delegates to connect and explore collaborative initiatives.
Supported by the Commonwealth Secretariat, this summit emphasizes the role of youth in democracy and sustainable development. Our agenda includes critical topics such as CHOGM simulations, mentorship programs, and youth discussions.
While we strive for an educational experience rather than a perfect simulation, we believe in enlightening participants about the workings of Commonwealth diplomacy. Each committee will address real-world issues, encouraging meaningful engagement and research.
We prioritize education over competition, emphasizing diplomacy, compromise, and collaborative leadership. Our dedicated Official Bureau team is here to ensure every voice is heard and to facilitate a supportive environment.
As you embark on this enriching journey at the Model Commonwealth Summit 2025, I hope you find your experience thought-provoking and inspiring. This is a unique opportunity to learn, grow, and embrace new challenges as global citizens. I look forward to witnessing the impactful work you will accomplish together.
Thank you for being part of this remarkable summit.
Best regards,
Susan Segua Smith
